Erdinger Weissbier

Rating: 3.5

This is the worlds most popular wheat beer, brewed in Erding, Barvaria in southern Germany since 1886. The beer “is brewed with fine yeast after a delivered prescription and naturally strictly after the Bavarian purity requirement” and available throughout Germany & the European Union and numerous other places around the world. Traditionally drank before noon to go with a traditional German sausage, this is a beer I am looking forward too & I’m not sure what to expect. I imagine it will be similar to the previous wheat beers I have reviewed but at the same time have its own unique characteristics. This is the best known & most drank beer of the many the brewery produce & will amazingly be only the second German beer I have reviewed; shocking really.

Appearance (4/5): Hazy golden in colour with a large, foamy white head that lasts throughout leaving some lacing.
Aroma (6/10):
Light smelling with hints of fruit, possibly banana some wheat & citrus traces.
Taste (8/10): Very sweet to begin with some nice citrus & fruity notes upfront. There is also a spicy clove flavour mixed with a banana & wheat taste. Very pleasant.
Palate (3/5): Light to medium bodied & quite smooth but not overly making it easy to drink. Lots of carbonation too which tingled the tongue.

Overall (14/20): A very nice beer to start off proceedings with, light enough & easy to drink. Plenty of flavour & a good blend with decent carbonation. Not spectacular but a really nice beer non the less.
