Home > Pale Lager > Heineken

Rating: 2.35

A real global beer now, Heineken is popular around the world in places such as United States, Australia, Europe & the Middle East. Brewed in the Netherlands since 1873, this is a beer I have tried numerous times in the past & became familiar with it whilst in Amsterdam where it was almost the only beer I came across in most of the cities bars and clubs. It is a beer that I have always found as nothing more than average despite most people I speak to rating it highly although this may simply be because it isn’t as widely available in the UK as Carlsberg or Fosters for example. From my experience it isn’t a bad beer, it’s just not one that I would go out of my way to drink.

Appearance (3/5): Light straw in appearance with a finger sized, white head that lasts fairly well with some bubbles rising to the surface.
Aroma (4/10): Standard for a pale lager with a skunky aroma present as well. Quite bland and watery with the usual corn & bread aromas usually found in pale lagers.
Taste (5/10): The corn, syrup and grain account for the majority of this lagers taste. Like the smell it is quite bland in taste with some hints of grain as well. Generally disappointing but drinkable.
Palate (2/5): Light bodied & slightly watery with a sort of crisp finish. It is smooth & drinkable although far too light.

Overall (9/20): Totally standard with nothing out of the ordinary, a disappointing lager that is nothing more than a session beer drank to get you drunk & not for enjoyment.
