Meantime Pilsner

Rating: 3.7

This particular beer was a gift, purchased from The Old Brewery which is owned by the Meantime Brewing Company and the bottle itself was possible the nicest of any beer I have tried thus far. Coming in a 330ml champagne bottle, it was already a beer I was looking forward to trying. Coupled with the reputation of this relatively new brewery (established in 2000) and the fact that six of the companies beers feature on the 1001 Beer list & this should make for a very good beer indeed. Although this pilsner is not featured on said list I am still expecting it do be of high quality, particularly considering I usually enjoy the pilsners I do try. In addition to this offering I will also be reviewing a further three beers from this brewer in the near future.

Appearance (4/5): This pilsner is pale yellow with a thin bright, white head that has good retention. The beer shows signs of good carbonation in the bubbles too.
Aroma (7/10): Smells not unlike your standard pilsner but a more fresh version with lots of grassy hops. Not very strong smelling but certainly refreshing.
Taste (7/10): A mixture of citrus fruits & possibly apples. There is a sort of fresh tang to the drink with a very mild bitter finish that rounds things off nicely.
Palate (4/5): A very smooth pilsner that is quite light but certainly not watery. Very easy to drink & very refreshing.

Overall (14/20): A really nice, refreshing pilsner that is lovely ona  warm summers day. One of the nicer pilsners I have tried and certainly one that is above average for the style. I’ll be looking out for this one again in future.
