Harvest Sun

Rating: 3.05

Harvest Sun will be the third Williams Brothers beer I will have tried & this particular one is usually only available in bottles, however it has since been introduced as a seasonal summer cask ale as well; as you might expect I’m reviewing the bottled version for now & may get round to the cask depending on how this one rates. The previous two offerings from the brewery, Fraoch & Róisin, were a success so hopefully this one follows suit as I have a few more from the brewery waiting to be drank. This one is noted for  a it’s crisp, dry flavour & for having a “sweet, hoppy aroma”, the bottle calls it a “hoppy golden ale” so I’m expecting this one to be quite enjoyable.

Appearance (3/5): A very light amber colour that almost borders on straw with a thin, pinky sized lacing that is white & bubbly with fair retention. There is a few bubbles showing through the glass & the beer has good clarity.
Aroma (6/10): Initially there is a fair bit of citrus on the nose that is quickly followed up by some floral like hops and a nice tropical fruit smell. The down side of this is that it is a struggle to detect & seems as though it has been watered down slightly; could do with being more pronounced.
Taste (6/10): The beer is a typical golden ale with some floral hops that match up with the nose & a slight fruity tang however there is little in this beer to make it stick out from the crowd any. Some bitter hops can be detected at the back end & there is a sweet tang to it but again, like the nose the taste is not the strongest sadly.
Palate (3/5): The body of this one is really quite light but I wouldn’t go as far as to say it is watery. There is good carbonation & a crisp, dry finish that is slightly too bitter for my liking but enjoyable none the less.

Overall (13/20): An average golden ale & one that struggles to stick out from the many others just like it. The smell & taste were a little weak in my opinion & the finish was just that little bit too bitter. A drinkable beer but sadly it is the weakest offering from the brewery I have tried to date.
