Cock O’ The Walk

Rating: 3.0

A Williams Brother beer here now and one that I had been eyeing up for a couple weeks before finally getting round to buying. Beers from this brewery have been a mixed bag for me but I tend to try and pick one or two of their offerings up any time Tesco reduce them to £1.25 a bottle, which seems to be every couple of months. The label on this one is a nice, eye catching red and the name is one to be admired so I’m hopefully that isn’t simply to distract from the beer but we will see; it was pretty cheap though I guess so I’m just happy I’m getting around to trying it.

Appearance (4/5): Red to orange copper coloured with a thin off-white lacing for a head that covers the surface of the beer and remains constant throughout.
Aroma (6/10): Quite sweet smelling and malty with a muted, nutty aroma that lingers around the middle of the beer. There is also a light hops smell, particularly towards the end.
Taste (5/10): Rich sweet malts kick this drink off along with a sugary sweetness that is a little to strong for my liking. There is a tarty finish that has a lot of malty bitterness as well. Not a pleasant tasting beer in my opinion.
Palate (3/5): Pretty much standard on the palate really with a medium, smooth feel to it and a mild bitter finish. There is a lingering bitter aftertaste as well.

Overall (10/20): I felt this beer started feel and faded a little to fast for me, there wasn’t really a lot going on if I’m honest and the taste wasn’t a great one although it was just about drinkable. Avoid this one if you come across it.
