Jenlain Blonde (112 of 1001)

Rating: 3.85

A fairly new addition to the Jenlain roaster, this one was introduced in March 2005 to replace the existing Jenlain Blonde that is still available under the new name of “Jenlain No. 6”. This newer version is 7.5% abv. which is stronger than its predecessor at 6% abv. and proved to be an instant hit in France. The original Jenlain Blonde was initially introduced back in the year 2000. This was another beer I picked up in a Paris supermarket back in April and have been saving since then. It is also the second beer from the Duyck brewery that I will have reviewed here, following on from last months Jenlain Ambrée that also features in the 1001 beers list alongside this one. Out of the two, this is the only one I have since spotted in the UK with some Peckhams stores selling it.

Appearance (4/5): A sort of hazy, light amber to orange colour with a foamy white head on top that stays for a couple of minutes, only reducing in size very gradually.
Aroma (8/10): Orange peel, some good citrus notes and a lot of yeast in this one to begin with that makes it smell almost like a witbier. There is some pears in there as well as some floral hops and a touch of apple.
Taste (7/10): Sweet malts and some light fruits, mainly some apple and pear from the nose. There is a touch of orange that becomes stronger as the drink goes on and this is followed by some floral hops and some citrus.
Palate (4/5): Very sweet with a smooth, medium body and strong carbonation and a touch of sticky bitterness right at the end, although this is minimal.

Overall (15/20): Another excellent Biére De Garde just like Jenlain Ambrée and one that I quite enjoyed. There was a good fruity, hop filled taste to the beer that had a good kick to it. Luckily this is a beer I have spotted since coming back to the UK so I may be tempted to pick this one up again at some point in the future.
