Ožujsko Limun

Rating: 2.8

Apparently this one is ‘Brewed with pride in Croatia’, I’m not sure about that but it was available everywhere in the country alongside the flagship Ožujsko Pivo and a few others by the same brewery that I will put reviews up of once I find the time. One of the reasons I went for this one is due to it’s easy availability in Croatia but also because I thought it might be a refreshing choice for first thing in the afternoon. I’m not usually a fan of this type of beer but I planned to try as many new beers as possible on my trip and this had to be one of them. The good news was that it was in fact quite refreshing and not as bad as I had feared although I didn’t make a habit of picking a can up all that often.

Appearance (3/5): A cloudy golden lemonade colour with a small, finger sized head of bubble at the top that fades fast to leave a patchy lacing above the beer.
Aroma (5/10): Not at all like a beer in smell with the majority of the aroma coming from a strong citrus and bitter lemon aroma, with the rest from some sugar. I thought this one was exactly like a glass of real lemonade, pleasant enough but just not the right smell for a can of beer.
Taste (6/10): Much like the smell with everything coming for a lemon and citrus aroma, not quite as strong as with the smell but definitely the dominate taste. There isn’t a whole lot else other than some sugar and an overall bitter-sweet taste from both the sugar and the lemons. Basically a radler with no taste of beer apparent.
Palate (3/5): Smooth and light bodied with a whole lot of fizz and the feel of a soft drink when drinking with tonnes of carbonation. There was a bitter lemon bite to it too and the ‘beer’ was crisp and refreshing at least.

Overall (10/20): Nothing at all like a beer in my book, I basically found like one as being like drinking a glass of real lemonade with lots of fizz, sugar and lemons but little evidence of beer in there. It was however very easy to drink and quite refreshing without any noticeable hints of alcohol or beer.
