Adnams Ghost Ship

Rating: 3.55

Another Adnams beer that I found on special in Morrisons and grab whilst it was cheap, it’s a beer I’ve seen in a number of places and put of buying in favour of others. I’ve tried a couple of Adnams beers now and they have been a sort of mixed bag, although their Broadside beer was excellent so I’m hoping this one will be of a similar quality. The strange thing is that this brewery is rated pretty highly but with the exception of the previously mentioned beer I’ve not found them all that special, hopefully this one can change that & I can pick up a few more of their beers later this year.

Adnams Ghost Ship

Appearance (5/5): Quite a bright, golden amber colour with a thumb sized, creamy white head that stays pretty well with little reduction in size over a couple of minutes.
Aroma (6/10): Medium strength sweet malts, some floral hops and a good citrus aroma following this. There is some bitter malts and a small amount of caramel but generally quite faint.
Taste (7/10): Starts with some bitter malts and a nice citrus and lemon backing. There is some floral hops and a strong biscuit flavour after this. Definitely a bitter beer but not a bad taste.
Palate (3/5): Medium body and about the same carbonation level, there is a small amount of spice and a mild citrus tang but it’s definitely the bitterness that dominates.

Overall (13/20): Not a bad bitter taste although not exactly a great one either, it was drinkable but the aroma was lacking a little and not really that noticeable. It did hold its head fairly well though and looked pretty good but it’s not a beer I’d pick up again given the choice, it was just too ordinary a pale ale.
