Real Scottish Honey Beer

Rating: 1.75

This is another beer that I picked up at the Allanwater Brewhouse last weekend, this being one of the Tinpot Microbrewery that is based there’s beers. It is a honey beer and to be honest I’m not sure why I opted to pick the bottle up as the amount of sediment in the bottle was beyond belief and but it was the last one left so I assumed it must be a best seller of sorts. Hopefully it proves to be a better be than I fear it will be but there is only one way to find out.
Tinpot Real Scottish Honey Beer

Appearance (2/5): A bright golden colour with a huge, oversized and foamy white head that starts massive and ends up spilling over the sides before settling as a thick looking, thumb sized head that leaves a little lacing on the glass. The bottle was also loaded with sediment.
Aroma (3/10): A very potent, strong smelling beer on the nose with tonnes of honey and very sweet malts. There is a very fruit smell to this one with not a lot else other than the honey I’m afraid and it doesn’t really smell great, just overpowering.
Taste (1/10): A truly disgusting taste that was so sweet it was almost making me sick after the one sip. There is bucket loads of honey with some alcohol and bitterness plus a slight metallic taste but that’s about all I could identify really.
Palate (1/5): Sweet, far too sweet in fact but with some metallic touches and a very dry and bitter taste. The body was light medium and the carbonation levels were through the roof and far too gassy.

Overall (3/20): Not quite the worst beer I’ve ever tried but definitely a contender with almost nothing going for it. It was far too sweet, had a terrible aroma and poor balance with almost no redeeming features. I’m struggling to think of a worse drink and not long after this one was poured I knew it was a drink I wouldn’t be finishing.
