This one is a new beer from Brewdog for 2013 that is a reworking of the 2011 prototype beer titled ‘Hops Kill Nazis‘ or sometimes called simply ‘Hops Kill ?’. That particular offering was a beer that I really enjoyed and had on a couple of occasions so hopefully this one stays true to the original. It is labelled as an Imperial Red Ale and is full of American hops and has been available since may this year. I managed to pick a bottle up from a Glasgow shop after missing the initial run on the Brewdog website but I’m glad I managed to find a bottle in case it is a while before we see it being brewed again.
10 Heads High

Appearance (4/5): A red to caramel brown colour with a half centimetre tall, bubbly head that is off-white to light tan in colour and settles as a tiny bit of patchy lacing on the top after about thirty seconds.
Aroma (7/10): This one starts with a very strong, hoppy aroma that is loaded with caramel and malts as well as a whole host of fruity notes. There is some juicy tropical fruit smells with a pine and citrus helping out as well. Nothing overly complex, just a solid and good smelling beer.
Taste (7/10): Like the smell this one has a lot of hops with the pine and tropical fruits from the nose coming through plus some grapefruit and more citrus flavours. There is some mango and the beer tastes refreshing for a moment until the bitter hops hit right at the end.
Palate (4/5): Slightly chewy with soft carbonation and a light medium body. The beer is incredibly bitter and although refreshing to begin with the beer ends up a little dry and with a alcohol laced finish that is very bitter.

Overall (15/20): A pretty good beer although sadly not quite as nice as the original Hops Kill Nazis but it’s not lagging too far behind. This one is quite nice and has a good hop character as well as a very bitter, in your face taste that grabs your attention straight away. Probably not a go to beer but one that would be worth having again for sure.
