Tiger Crystal Light

Rating: 1.55

A second Tiger beer here although this one is a Thai brewed beer from Thai Asia Pacific Breweries, an offshoot of the Singaporean brewery that makes the more famous Tiger beer available almost everywhere. This one takes the same name and adds Crystal Light to the end, this one being a low calorie version of Tiger Crystal although I never spotted that one anywhere in Thailand. This is a beer that I picked up to make a change from constantly drinking bottles of the local Chang beer whilst in Thailand last month. I found a bottle in a local supermarket on the island of Koh Lanta and opted to give it a go despite my better judgement and sadly it was worse than I was expecting.
Tiger Crystal Light

Appearance (2/5): An incredibly light coloured straw that makes it one of the lightest looking beers I’ve ever seen. It has a not bad, thumb-sized, white head that settles about just under half a centimetre tall.
Aroma (4/10): Light citrus and some limes on the nose that make it seem a little like a bottle of Corona. There are a few basic adjuncts and some light malts along with a bit of hay and bread too.
Taste (3/10): A mass of adjuncts with some light, lager malts with some lime and citrus but not a lot else. Quite an odd tasting beer that was pretty water too.
Palate (1/5): Very light with touches of skunk and a hint of a citrus tang. The beer is quite watery and thin with a bit of bitterness but overall it was rather bland.

Overall (5/20): Although this naturally wasn’t a beer I was expecting much from even I was surprised by just how bland it was and how little it had going for it. It was far too thin and watery to enjoy and despite this still somehow managed to taste quite bad. Not a good beer at all, I’ll stick to Tiger in future rather than the Crystal Light version.

What are you talking about? Discerning customers who are knowledgeable would be digging this beer. Just like non fat, skimmed and full fat milk. We like our variety to change things up now and then. You’re probably with a beer belly and these days, health is wealth. Personally, I cannot live without beer but drinking for 40 years has made me quite wide in the waist! Haha. That doesn’t mean I don’t wish to enjoy a light and refreshing beer. I wish for more of these beers to be sold around, I can only find them in Thailand. Alas, I advocate for responsible drinking and these light beers are a revolution!

Each to their own I guess but as I recall it was a terrible beer. Flavourless and weak; very much the Bud Light of Asia.
