Cloud 9 Wit

Rating: 3.6

Moving on to my seventeenth Danish beer now and what was only my second from the To Øl brewery whose beers seem to becoming a more common sight in the UK of late. This one follows on from their Fuck Art – This Is Architecture beer that I reviewed here last summer. That particular beer was an okay one, although I really like the name but seeing as it was a brewery that I at least recognised I opted for this as my first beer in Brewdog Glasgow on my most recent visit. Being a relatively low abv. witbier I was hoping this would be a flavoursome and refreshing beer to start off with before moving onto something stronger later in the night. As it happens the beer wasn’t a bad one although it wasn’t exactly a classic either; here’s what I thought of it anyway.
Cloud 9 Wit

Appearance (4/5): This beer was a light, cloudy amber to golden colour and was topped with a white lacing that is fairly thick looking and remains at about the same level for a few minutes at least.
Aroma (6/10): Some wheat and orange peel on the nose initially with some light spices and subtle hops also coming through. There was a touch of yeast and faint biscuit malts along with some citrus too.
Taste (7/10): Light bitter hops and some spice along with some orange peel and citrus. I could detect some background fruits that included some apple and there was a few tropical fruit flavours, mainly mango, coming through without being overly pronounced.
Palate (4/5): A slightly bitter, dry beer with a medium body and solid, moderate carbonation and an okay balance as well.

Overall (14/20): Not a bad beer from To Øl and a slight improvement on the last beer I had from the brewery although this one would exactly set the brewing world alight. The beer was enjoyable and easy to drink but I felt as though the taste, and the smell in particular could have done with being more pronounced. It was a nice beer nonetheless and featured more hops than a usual witbier, which made for a nice change.
