Blond Witch

Rating: 3.15

This one is another beer that I picked up recently in B&M Bargains after seeing it alongside a bottle of Pendle Witches Brew from the same brewery that I reviewed here in the past. I couldn’t in all honesty remember much about that beer at the time but I do remember it featured in the 1001 beers list and on that alone I decided to give Blond Witch a try. Going by the name of this one it could quite easily be a beer churned out with a similar name to the previously mentioned Pendle Witches Brew in order to piggyback on that beers popularity and both are golden ales but I’m still hopefully that this one will offer something of its own and prove to be a decent offering.

Blond Witch

Appearance (4/5): Bright golden colour with amber tinges and a clear body that features some fine bubbles. The head is a thick looking, half centimetre affair with a foamy white texture that leaves some nice lacing on the glass too.
Aroma (6/10): The aroma of this one was quite subtle with some light malts and a few citrus notes coming through early on. There was a nice grassy aroma with touches of herbs and floral notes before some faint touches of skunk appeared towards the end; decent but by means great.
Taste (6/10): Bitter and slightly floral on the taste with some grassy hops early on again and the light malts and citrus from the nose featuring here as well. Nothing really stood out with this beer other some basic hops but it wasn’t a bad beer, it just wasn’t that exciting either.
Palate (3/5): Smooth and fairly light bodied with some medium strength bitterness throughout thanks to the hops but they could have been a little stronger. Balance wise the beer was okay with nothing overpowering and the carbonation levels were about average as well.

Overall (11/20): This one from Mourhouse’s Brewery was a fairly average offering if I’m honest, a drinkable beer that was okay but it’s certainly not one worth seeing out nor would it be one that I’d be likely to pick up again.
