Wild Gravity

Rating: 3.5

My first beer from North Yorkshire based Bad Co. Brewing & Distilling, this one isn’t a beer that I had seen prior to receiving it as a gift a couple of weeks ago but apparently it’s a beer that Asda supermarkets have recently started to stock. Labelled as an American IPA, this was a beer that I wasn’t too sure about initially but having tried it I can now confirm that it was a much better beer than I’d anticipated and is one that I’d happily have again; here’s what I thought of it at the time.

Appearance (3/5): Light amber and quite clear with a thin, half centimetre head that’s bubbly white and turns patchy after about a minute but leaves slightly more build up around the edges of the glass.
Aroma (7/10): Citrus and faint floral hops kick things off with some bread malts and light hay not too far behind, There was some tropical fruits towards the middle and I managed to detect some orange sneaking through as well before a slightly resinous pine aroma seen things out.
Taste (7/10): Quite a resinous beer with a fresh taste that had some grapefruit opening things up alongside hop oils and a few background fruits; most notably some mango but a touch of peach featured too. It was quite an easy-going beer with bread malts and a subtle sweetness a little further on.
Palate (4/5): Lively and well carbonated with a fresh feel throughout and a slight tang coming through as well. There was plenty of floral touches as well as a solid hop presence that gave the beer a bitter but easy to drink feel that was smooth on the way down too.

Overall (14/20): This one was a surprisingly good offering that came through a lot fresher than I’d expected and went down very easily after opening with a light but hoppy taste that was quite resinous too. There was plenty of floral touches coming through with the odd bread and sweet malt towards the end; great stuff and it’s definitely beer that I’d have again.
